Delicious Sri Lankan Food
Try rice and curry, hoppers, kottu and fresh seafood. Leave room for local fruit and something sweet.
Trying local food is an easy way to get to know Sri Lanka. Rice and curry might arrive with several small dishes, each with a different flavour. Hoppers, kottu and roti offer other meals to try, with fruit and local sweets for a snack later in the day.
What you eat can change as you travel. Coastal meals often include seafood, while a visit to Jaffna gives you a chance to try northern cooking. Markets and small restaurants are part of the experience too. If you enjoy cooking, ask whether a lesson can be added to one of your stays.
Let your planner and the people preparing your meals know about allergies and dietary needs. Ask how spicy a dish is if you prefer milder food. You can try a few new things at a time and still leave room for familiar meals during a longer trip.
